About us

Офис AlenMed в Мюнхене

AlenMed is a company in Munich that arranges treatment at German hospitals. We have worked in medical services and consulting in Germany since 2010. Our office is at Funkerstraße 5, 80636 München — not a virtual address or a representative office but the place where the people handling your case sit.

What we do and what we do not

We do not treat. We do not make diagnoses, do not judge prognosis and do not argue with prescriptions. Treatment is entirely a matter for the hospital and the doctor, and we think it important that this line is visible from the start.

Our work is everything around it: understanding your situation, finding a hospital and a doctor who deal with your condition in earnest, translating the documents, obtaining the hospital’s answer and its cost estimate, arranging the invitation for the visa, meeting you, settling you in, accompanying you at appointments, and translating the discharge report back into your own language. In other words, taking the whole organisational part off the patient and the family, so that strength goes into treatment rather than into correspondence with a foreign hospital in a foreign language.

How we choose a hospital

We do not keep a ranking of “the best hospitals in Germany” and do not recommend a hospital because it is easier to work with. The selection goes by things that can be checked: whether the particular department treats your condition as its main field, whether the centre holds relevant certification, what equipment it has, how regularly the necessary procedure is performed there.

The second criterion is the completeness of the route. It is good when assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and follow-up all fit within one organisation: the patient does not have to move between cities, and the doctors see the whole picture. The third is the relation between the price and what the estimate actually includes. An expensive hospital does not mean a suitable one, and the cheapest estimate often turns out to be incomplete.

Money

Here we hold to one rule: the patient pays the hospital directly, against its own invoice, calculated at the German tariff for private patients. We do not take payment for treatment and do not add a mark-up to medical invoices. Any unused part of the deposit is returned by the hospital to the patient. The cost of our organising work is discussed separately and in advance.

The first consultation is free and commits you to nothing. If the documents show that travelling is unnecessary, or that the treatment you need is available closer to home, we say so plainly.

How working with us goes

Each patient is assigned a particular member of staff who speaks their language. They handle the case from the first email until the return home, so there is no need to retell the story each time. They can be reached outside ordinary working hours too — questions arise at the hospital in the evening and at weekends no less often than on a Monday morning.

A film about how AlenMed works: the clinic, rehabilitation, meeting the patient in Munich. Three minutes, narrated in English.

The easiest way to begin is with an email: describe the situation briefly and attach the most recent medical documents. We will look at what there is and say what data are missing for the hospital to give a substantive answer.

This material is for information only and does not replace a consultation with a doctor. The company provides organisational and translation services and does not practise medicine. Whether treatment is possible, what it will involve and what it will achieve can be determined only after an examination at the clinic in person.
