Since 2014, Prof. Dr med. Markus Gosch has led the Department of Geriatrics at Nuremberg Hospital as Department Director. His clinical activity focuses on internal medicine and geriatric care, including the treatment of complex age-related illnesses in hospitalised patients.

His specific areas of work include geriatric traumatology (Alterstraumatologie, treating elderly patients with fractures and musculoskeletal injuries), polypharmacy (Polypharmazie, managing multiple medications to avoid adverse drug interactions), and perioperative management (care before and after surgical procedures in older adults).

What they are known for

Prof. Dr med. Markus Gosch studied medicine at the University of Innsbruck from 1984 to 1991 and qualified as a specialist in internal medicine with an additional qualification in geriatrics. He completed his habilitation in geriatrics at PMU Salzburg in 2014 and was appointed University Professor of Geriatrics at Paracelsus Medical Private University in Nuremberg in 2015. He served as President of the German Geriatrics Society (DGG) from 2023 to 2025 and has received awards including the Ignatius Nascher Prize of the City of Vienna in 2011 and the Rolf & Hubertine Schiffbauer Advancement Award in 2017. He is a member of the German Society of Internal Medicine (DGIM) and acts as an editor and reviewer for medical publications such as the Zeitschrift für Gerontologie und Geriatrie.
