Prof. Dr med. Dr h c Boris Hadaschik (Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h. c. Boris Hadaschik) is the director of the department of urology at Essen University Hospital, head of the uro-oncology centre and deputy director of the West German Cancer Centre. Patients consult him above all for tumours of the urinary and male genital organs, when the diagnosis has to be confirmed and the treatment decided.
Where the doctor practises and what they do
He works in Essen and directs the department of urology, which deals with diseases of the kidneys, bladder, ureters, prostate and the male genital organs. His own field is uro-oncology, that is tumours of these organs: cancer of the prostate, of the bladder, of the kidney and of the testis. He heads the uro-oncology centre of the hospital.
A uro-oncology centre in Germany is not a separate building but a way of organising care: every case is discussed by a tumour board, where the urologist, the medical oncologist, the radiotherapist and the radiologist look at the images and the biopsy results together and agree on a plan. Boris Hadaschik is a university professor and holds an honorary doctorate. Besides directing the department of urology he heads the uro-oncology centre and is deputy director of the West German Cancer Centre in Essen, the body that brings the cancer services of the university hospital together.
