Dr med. Alexander Kaspin (Dr. med. Alexander Kaspin) is Chief Physician of Urology at the Urology Clinic Munich-Planegg near Munich and head of its kidney stone centre. Patients come to him with kidney and ureteral stones, cancer of the prostate, bladder and kidney, and with an enlarged prostate that needs surgery.
Where the doctor practises and what they do
Dr Kaspin has worked at the Urology Clinic Munich-Planegg since 2007, has headed its kidney stone centre since 2018 and has been Chief Physician since July 2020. His first field is stones: mini-percutaneous removal of kidney stones (through a small puncture in the flank with a slim instrument) and removal of ureteral and kidney stones with a flexible endoscope through the natural urinary passages (RIRS, flexible ureteroscopy) – with no incision in the skin.
His second field is urological cancer surgery with the da Vinci robot: nerve-sparing removal of the prostate for cancer (preserving the nerves responsible for erection and continence), removal of the bladder with construction of a new reservoir from bowel, and organ-preserving operations for kidney tumours, in which only the tumour is removed and the kidney is kept. For an enlarged prostate he performs laser enucleation (HoLEP – removal of the overgrown tissue with a holmium laser through the urethra) as well as transurethral resection of the prostate and bladder. What they are known for
Alexander Kaspin trained at the University of Regensburg (2000–2002) and at the Rechts der Isar hospital of the Technical University of Munich (2002–2006). He has built his entire career at the Urology Clinic Munich-Planegg: resident (2007–2010), specialist urologist (2010–2013), senior physician (from 2013), head of the kidney stone centre (from 2018) and Chief Physician (from 2020). He is a board-certified urologist and an honorary professor of the Ural State Medical University in Yekaterinburg.
