Prof. Dr med. habil. Yves Gramlich (Prof. Dr. med. habil. Yves Gramlich) is Chief Physician of the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at the Markus Hospital, part of Agaplesion Frankfurt Diakonie Hospital in Frankfurt am Main. Where the doctor practises and what they do
Prof. Gramlich practises at the Markus Hospital in Frankfurt am Main, where he heads the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery and a certified maximum-care arthroplasty centre (EPZmax, a status given to centres with a large volume of complex joint operations). The core of his work is modern hip and knee replacement — exchanging a worn joint for an artificial one. A separate field is revision arthroplasty: repeat operations when an existing prosthesis has loosened, worn out or was poorly positioned.
Among the most demanding cases he takes on are periprosthetic infections — inflammation of the tissue around an artificial joint, where the implant often has to be removed, the infection treated and a new joint fitted. Prof. Gramlich is also a specialist in severe trauma and emergency medicine, so patients are referred to him after fractures and joint injuries as well. What they are known for
Yves Gramlich completed his habilitation (the German postdoctoral qualification for university teaching) and is an adjunct professor of Goethe University Frankfurt, where he lectures and examines. Until November 2024 he was leading senior physician of the trauma and orthopaedic department at the BG Unfallklinik Frankfurt, the accident-insurance hospital that receives the most severe injuries, as well as deputy head of its maximum-care arthroplasty centre and the clinic’s scientific director. He completed fellowships with Prof. Pfeil in Wiesbaden and Prof. Parvizi at Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He holds additional qualifications in special trauma surgery and emergency medicine, is an EndoCert-certified senior surgeon and holds the «AE Endoprothetik Master» certificate for hip, knee and revision surgery. He sits on the board of the German Society for Arthroplasty and leads its working group on periprosthetic infection; he received the society’s science prize for 2024 and the DGOU research prize in 2019, and appears on the FOCUS list of doctors for 2024.
