Prof. Dr med. Michael Jöbges (Prof. Dr. med. Michael Jöbges) is Medical Director of the Konstanz site of Kliniken Schmieder. Patients come to him for rehabilitation after a stroke or brain surgery, with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, with multiple sclerosis, and after treatment for tumours of the brain and spinal cord.

Prof. Jöbges heads Kliniken Schmieder in Konstanz on Lake Constance. His field is neurological rehabilitation — recovery once the nervous system has been damaged and the acute treatment is over. He works on two kinds of deficit: motor (weakness of an arm or leg, spasticity, loss of balance) and neuropsychological (problems with speech, memory, attention and planning). Besides neurology he is certified in rehabilitation medicine, social medicine and clinical geriatrics, so he is used to older patients with several conditions at once.

Michael Jöbges is first chairman of the German Society for Neurotraumatology and Clinical Neurorehabilitation and a member of the scientific advisory board of the Bobath therapists of Germany (the Bobath concept is one of the main approaches to recovering movement after brain damage). His research topics are motor rehabilitation, Parkinson’s disease, post-stroke depression, the link between nutrition and stroke, and movement analysis. He is a member of the German Society of Neurology (DGN) and the German Society for Neurorehabilitation (DGNR).
