Prof. Oliver Cornely — infection specialist

Prof. Dr med. Oliver Cornely

Where the doctor practises and what they do

Prof. Dr med. Oliver Cornely leads research initiatives at the Institute for Translational Research, part of the CECAD Cluster of Excellence in Cologne. His primary focus is translational infection research, which aims to rapidly transfer lab-based microbiological findings into practical methods for clinical diagnostics in Germany and therapy. By evaluating experimental concepts against actual patient needs, his work supports the development of targeted approaches against infectious agents.

Working closely within the university clinical network, he coordinates interdisciplinary efforts to manage persistent or treatment-resistant infections. His department systematically assesses diagnostic parameters and novel therapeutic strategies to improve patient outcomes in complex clinical settings. Through integration with university infrastructure, his research directly informs modern protocols for medical treatment in Germany.
