In his clinical practice within cardiology, he focuses on interventional therapy for coronary heart disease, complex coronary interventions, and intravascular imaging combined with coronary physiology testing. He also treats structural heart conditions such as hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy H(O)CM and provides catheter-based interventions for pulmonary embolism (blood clot blockage in lung arteries).
In intensive care medicine, he manages mechanical circulatory support systems, including ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, an external heart-lung support system) and Impella (a temporary intracardiac blood pump). His practice also encompasses management of vascular conditions such as atherosclerosis affecting coronary vessels.

Prof. Dr med. Sebastian Kufner studied medicine at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (2002–2004) and Technical University of Munich (2004–2008), obtaining his doctorate in 2010. He completed residency training at Klinikum rechts der Isar and the German Heart Centre Munich, earning specialist qualification in internal medicine and cardiology in 2016 and completing his habilitation that same year. From 2018 to 2024, he worked as a senior physician for interventional cardiology at the German Heart Centre Munich. He has been an adjunct professor at Technical University of Munich since June 2022.
He holds certified specialisations in interventional cardiology from the German Cardiac Society (DGK, since 2018) and special internal intensive care medicine (since 2019). His scientific achievements include the DGK Young Investigator Award (2017), the American College of Cardiology Young Author Achievement Award (2018), and the DGK Andreas Grüntzig Prize (2021). He acts as principal investigator for multicentre clinical trials and serves as a reviewer for international scientific journals, including The Lancet and JACC.
