He completed his initial clinical work at the Neurological Clinic of Erlangen University Hospital before serving as a research assistant and senior physician at its Psychiatric Clinic. From 2008 to 2017, he worked as managing senior physician and deputy clinic director at Hannover Medical School. His scientific achievements have been recognised with the Nordmann Award from the European Society of Biomedical Research on Alcoholism (2010), the Research Prize of the North German Addiction Research Association (2009), and the ECNP Fellowship Award (2007). Since 2025, he serves as Co-President of DG-Sucht and holds active memberships in professional societies including DGPPN, AGNP, NSF, BAS, and BDK.
