Dr med. Kai Mehlhase specialises in vascular surgery, vascular medicine, and endovascular vascular surgery (minimally invasive interventions performed inside blood vessels). His clinical focus encompasses surgical and catheter-based treatments for acute and chronic vascular conditions, including severe circulatory disorders associated with atherosclerosis (narrowing of blood vessels due to arterial plaque deposits).
What they are known for
Dr Mehlhase studied human medicine at RWTH Aachen and Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte (USA) from 1988 to 1995, following initial university studies in mathematics and civil engineering. After working at the Surgical University Hospital Aachen, he completed specialist training at Schwarzwald-Baar-Klinikum Villingen-Schwenningen, where he served as responsible senior physician for endovascular vascular surgery from 2002 to 2010. He subsequently headed the vascular surgery department at University Hospital Tübingen before becoming Chief Physician at Helios Klinik Rottweil in July 2011, serving as its Medical Director from 2012 to 2017 and again since January 2024.
Alongside clinical duties, he has delivered student lectures, taught at nursing school since 1999, conducted training in endovascular techniques, and worked as a tutor and external consultant in endovascular vascular surgery. His professional affiliations include membership in the German Society for Vascular Surgery, the European Society for Vascular Surgery, the German Society for Surgery, and the Professional Association of German Surgeons.
