Dr Dennis Dietrich — vascular neurology

Dr Dennis Dietrich

Dr med. Dennis Dietrich (Dr. med. Dennis Dietrich) is the chief physician of the department of neurology and head of vascular neurology and neurological intensive care at Munich Hospital Harlaching in Munich. Patients come to him above all with stroke and its consequences, and when damage to the brain has to be watched over in an intensive care unit.

Where the doctor practises and what they do

He practises in Munich and is responsible for the vascular side of neurology, that is for illnesses caused by a disturbed blood supply to the brain. The core of his work is stroke care: rapid assessment, determining the type of stroke (a blocked vessel or a bleed) and choosing the treatment in the first hours, when every minute counts. He also looks after patients in neurological intensive care, with severe disturbances of consciousness, status epilepticus, brain swelling or breathing failure caused by a neurological illness.

His second field is ultrasound diagnosis. With it he assesses the vessels of the neck and head for narrowing, plaque or a tear in the vessel wall that could cause a further stroke. Dr Dennis Dietrich is a certified level 2 ultrasound teacher of the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (DEGUM), which means that he trains other doctors in the method. We describe separately what neurology in Germany covers.

What they are known for

Dennis Dietrich is a specialist in neurology with additional qualifications in neurological intensive care medicine, emergency medicine and clinical acute and emergency medicine. Under his direction the department is authorised to provide the full specialist training of neurologists (48 months) and the full additional training in intensive care medicine (24 months); in Germany such authorisation is granted only when the caseload and the equipment of a department are considered sufficient to teach specialists. His level 2 DEGUM teaching qualification in ultrasound is certified separately.

How we arrange an appointment

AlenMed arranges appointments with Dr med. Dennis Dietrich. Send us an enquiry with your reports, scans and findings: we translate them into German, pass them to Munich Hospital Harlaching and agree a date. At the consultation and on the ward you are accompanied by a medical interpreter and personal support, and we help with the visa, transfer and accommodation. Examinations and treatment are paid directly to the hospital at its official tariffs.
