Prof. Dr med. Marc Thill (Prof. Dr. med. Marc Thill) is Chief Physician of the Department of Gynaecology and Gynaecological Oncology at the Markus Hospital and Medical Director of Agaplesion Frankfurt Diakonie Hospital in Frankfurt am Main. Women come to him with breast cancer and tumours of the reproductive organs, with endometriosis and precancerous changes of the cervix, and when they need reconstructive breast surgery.
Where the doctor practises and what they do
Prof. Thill has headed the Department of Gynaecology at the Markus Hospital in Frankfurt am Main since July 2012 and is spokesman of its interdisciplinary breast centre; since March 2024 he has also been spokesman of the hospital group’s oncology centre, and since July 2026 its Medical Director. The core of his work is breast cancer treatment and gynaecological cancers — of the cervix, the uterus and the ovaries. He operates minimally invasively and with the DaVinci robotic system (certified since 2018), through small incisions that shorten recovery after surgery.
His second field is plastic and reconstructive breast surgery — restoring the breast after a tumour has been removed; Prof. Thill is a breast surgeon certified to the AWOgyn standard. He also treats endometriosis (growth of the uterine lining outside the uterus, which causes pain and infertility) and dysplasia, the precancerous changes of the cervix. He does the diagnostic work himself: he holds DEGUM level II certification in breast ultrasound, which means he performs expert scans in difficult cases. What they are known for
Marc Thill studied medicine at Goethe University Frankfurt and trained in gynaecology and obstetrics at the Offenbach hospital, where he later became leading senior physician. From 2007 to 2012 he worked at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein in Lübeck, heading the university breast centre and the gynaecological tumour centre; he completed his habilitation there in 2010 (the German postdoctoral qualification for university teaching) and became an adjunct professor of the University of Lübeck in 2019. He holds specialist designations in gynaecological oncology (2008) and in special obstetrics and perinatal medicine (2012). The interdisciplinary breast centre he represents is the largest in the Rhine-Main region and is certified by the German Cancer Society (DKG). He is a member of the AGO guideline commission on breast cancer, belongs to the DGGG, AGO, ESGO, ASCO and ESMO, and since 2024 has chaired the expert board for gynaecology and obstetrics of the whole AGAPLESION group.
