Prof. Franz Bader — visceral surgery

Prof. Dr Franz G. Bader

Prof. Dr med. Franz G. Bader (Prof. Dr. med. Franz G. Bader) is Director of the Department of General, Visceral and Minimally Invasive Surgery at ISAR Clinic Munich. Patients consult him for tumours of the digestive tract, chronic inflammatory bowel disease and hernias, usually when they hope for an operation through small incisions rather than open surgery.

Where the doctor practises and what they do

Prof. Bader has headed the Department of General, Visceral and Minimally Invasive Surgery at ISAR Clinic Munich since 2014 and belongs to its medical directorate. Most of his operating is minimally invasive surgery of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract, carried out through several small ports instead of a wide abdominal incision. He also operates on cancers of the digestive tract, above all colorectal cancer of the colon and the rectum.

His second main field is surgery for chronic inflammatory bowel disease, that is Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. He operates on functional bowel disorders as well: persistent constipation, disturbed evacuation and incontinence. Pancreatic surgery and the repair of abdominal wall hernias are part of his everyday work.

What they are known for

Franz G. Bader studied human medicine at the universities of Leipzig, Hamburg, Seattle (USA) and Munich. He trained in surgery at Klinikum Bogenhausen in Munich and at Lübeck University Hospital, and spent two years as a research fellow at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. From 2011 to 2014 he was senior physician and head of the colorectal surgery section at Klinikum rechts der Isar of the Technical University of Munich, where he coordinated the bowel centre. He is a specialist in surgery, visceral surgery and proctology, has published more than 100 scientific contributions and several books, given over 250 congress lectures, and serves on the committee of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery for laparoscopic rectal cancer surgery.

You send us an enquiry, we translate your medical reports and images into German, agree a date for the consultation or the operation at ISAR Clinic Munich, meet you at the airport and provide a medical interpreter and personal support for the whole stay.
