Where the doctor practises and what they do
Dr Hoppert has headed the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at ISAR Clinic Munich since June 2017. His main fields are shoulder and knee surgery and arthroscopic operations, in which a camera and fine instruments are introduced into the joint through a few small ports. In this way he treats damage to the rotator cuff of the shoulder and tears of the menisci and ligaments of the knee.
A further field is sports traumatology: recent and long-standing injuries in people who want to return to physical activity. He also performs joint replacement, that is the exchange of a worn joint for an artificial one, including revision operations when a prosthesis implanted earlier has loosened.
What they are known for
Matthias Hoppert studied human medicine at the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and completed his specialist training in orthopaedics and trauma surgery at the university hospitals of Erlangen, Würzburg and Munich-Großhadern. He held international fellowships in the USA, England and Switzerland, among them the Southern California Orthopedic Institute in Los Angeles, the Schulthess Clinic in Zurich, the University of Oxford and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Before joining the ISAR Clinic he led a practice for shoulder and knee surgery in Munich. He is a certified shoulder and elbow surgeon and a certified knee surgeon of the German specialist societies, holds the additional qualification in sports medicine and belongs to German and international orthopaedic associations. He was a contract player in the second German football league and goalkeeper of the German student national team.
