Prof. Christoph Klein — paediatric oncologist

Prof. Dr Christoph Klein

Prof. Dr med. Dr sci. nat. Christoph Klein (Prof. Dr. med. Dr. sci. nat. Christoph Klein) is Director of Dr. von Hauner Children’s Hospital (LMU) in Munich and head of haematology, oncology and coagulation. Families come to him when a child has been diagnosed with leukaemia, a tumour, a serious immune disorder or a rare disease that has long gone unexplained.

Where the doctor practises and what they do

Prof. Klein is a specialist in paediatrics with a subspecialty in paediatric haematology and oncology, that is, in blood diseases and malignant tumours in children. He has directed the children’s hospital and outpatient clinic since 2011 and at the same time leads its oncology team, the section for haematology, oncology and haemostasis (blood clotting). The team treats leukaemias, lymphomas, solid tumours, anaemias and clotting disorders in children and adolescents.

The second large part of his work concerns congenital immunodeficiencies and rare diseases. These are children whose immune system has not worked properly from birth: they suffer one severe infection after another while the cause remains unclear. Finding that cause, often a genetic one, and selecting treatment, from replacement therapy to bone marrow transplantation, is the task of this section.

What they are known for

Prof. Klein has been Director of the Dr. von Hauner Children’s Hospital and outpatient clinic since 2011 and, as its head, personally leads the oncology team, the section for haematology, oncology and coagulation. He holds two doctorates, in medicine and in natural sciences, reflecting his dual role as clinician and researcher. Congenital immune disorders and rare diseases in children are his clinical and scientific profile.

How we arrange an appointment

AlenMed arranges consultations and treatment with Prof. Klein. You send us an enquiry, we translate the medical records, laboratory and genetic test results into German, agree a date for the consultation or admission at Dr. von Hauner Children’s Hospital (LMU) and provide a medical interpreter to accompany the family. Diagnostics and treatment are paid directly to the hospital at its official tariffs. You can read more about children’s medicine in Germany on our dedicated page.
