Prof. Dr med. Siegfried Priglinger (Prof. Dr. med. Siegfried Priglinger) is the Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at LMU University Hospital, Munich. Patients consult him for medical diagnosis and surgical treatment across a wide range of ocular conditions, particularly complex retinal disorders and corneal pathologies.

Where the doctor practises and what they do

Prof. Dr med. Siegfried Priglinger has served as Director of the Eye Hospital at LMU University Hospital, Munich, since 2015. His clinical focus encompasses the treatment of retinal diseases, including macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, alongside performing retinal surgery such as vitrectomy (removal of the vitreous humour). He also performs surgical procedures for glaucoma, as well as modern cataract surgery using femtosecond laser-assisted techniques.

Additionally, he specialises in minimally invasive corneal transplantation, including DMEK (Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty) and DALK (deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty). His expertise includes refractive surgery for vision correction using SMILE, Femto-LASIK, implantable contact lenses (ICL), and multifocal lenses, providing patients with advanced options for eye treatment in Germany.

Prof. Dr med. Siegfried Priglinger completed his medical studies at the University of Vienna in 1998, followed by a research fellowship at the Schepens Eye Research Institute of Harvard Medical School. He qualified as a specialist in ophthalmology in 2005, became a senior physician at LMU Munich, completed his habilitation in 2006, and directed the Eye Clinic at AKH Linz from 2007. He was appointed adjunct professor at LMU Munich in 2011. A Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) and board member of the EBO, he serves as Chief Editor of «Klinische Monatsblätter für Augenheilkunde». His scientific research into minimally invasive eye surgery and wound healing earned him awards such as the DOG Research Prize in 2006. He is a member of professional societies including the AAO, ESCRS, DOG, ÖOG, Macula Society, Club Jules Gonin, EURETINA, and Retinologische Gesellschaft.
