Prof. Dr med. Wolfgang Wagner (Prof. Dr. med. Wolfgang Wagner) is Chief Physician of the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat Medicine and Head, Neck and Facial Surgery at Munich Hospital Schwabing in Munich. Patients come to him with blocked nasal breathing, with chronic inflammation of the sinuses, with tumours of the head and neck, and with severe hearing loss.
Where the doctor practises and what they do
Prof. Wagner’s main field is facial plastic surgery, above all functional and aesthetic surgery of the nose. In a septorhinoplasty the deviated septum is corrected to restore free breathing and the shape of the nose is changed in the same operation. His second field is minimally invasive sinus surgery, carried out through the nose without external incisions for chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps.
Since 2020 he has headed the certified head and neck tumour centre in Schwabing. He operates on malignant tumours of this region, including cancer of the mouth and tongue, and performs the reconstructions that restore form and function once a tumour has been removed. A further field is ear surgery to clear infection and improve hearing, including cochlear implants for profound hearing loss, when hearing aids no longer help. He also holds a qualification in allergology.
What they are known for
Wolfgang Wagner studied medicine at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, with attachments in London, San Francisco and at the University of Virginia in the USA. He completed his doctorate in radiation oncology in 1996, qualified as an ENT specialist in 1999 and became a senior physician in 2002. In 2004 he set up and led the outpatient surgery centre of the ENT department in Tübingen, from 2008 to 2010 coordinated its head and neck tumour centre and from 2009 to 2012 was managing senior physician there. He trained in plastic nasal surgery with Prof. Gubisch in Stuttgart and in 2007 was a visiting fellow with Dr Toriumi at the University of Chicago. In 2006 he gained additional qualifications in plastic operations and in special ENT surgery, alongside an international certificate in facial plastic surgery. Since 2023 he has chaired the working group for plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic head and neck surgery of the German ENT Society.
